TIFGREEN

SOD SPECIFICATIONS: TIFGREEN

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Tifgreen is a medium green, fine textured, tough and durable hybrid bermuda turfgrass which ia propagated from stolons. It is a low growing, resilient turfgrass which is highly tolerant to heat and heavy traffic. It can take normal abuse, and recovers quickly from damage. Tifgreen needs a sunny location, and looks its best when mowed at 1/4 to 3/4 inches. It has a short dormancy period in areas where the winters are not too severe.

RECOMMENDED USES: Tifgreen is recommended for residential, commercial, and industrial landscape installations, and for utilization on golf courses, athletic fields, and recreation areas. In a residential landscape situation, it is ideal for homes with children and pets.

COMPOSITION: Tifgreen is grown from high quality stolons which are propagated in a controlled cultural environment. This results in healthy sod which is virtually free of weeds, disease, and insect infestations.

MEASUREMENTS: Tifgreen is harvested by machine to a uniform thickness of 5/8 of an inch, plus or minus 1/4 of an inch, plus top growth. Tifgreen measures 15 inches wide and 48 inches long when shipped, and contains five square feet of sod.

SHIPPING STANDARDS: Prior to harvesting, Tifgreen is mowed uniformly to a height of between 1/2 to 3/4 inches for shipment. It is rolled or folded with the soil facing out to protect the grass from damage, and the sod is stacked on pallets. Each pallet contains approximately 500 square feet of sod. Tifgreen is shipped sufficiently dry for transportation and handling, yet moist enough to facilitate installation. It should be installed immediately after delivery. Shipping pallets are the property of Pacific Sod. Should pallet pick-up be required, please make arrangements with the office from which the sod was ordered.

TEMPERATURE TOLERANCE: Tifgreen is both heat tolerant and drought tolerant, and can withstand temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit with no problems.

WEAR RESISTANCE: Tifgreen is extremely wear resistant, and recovers quickly from damage.

SHADE TOLERANCE: Tifgreen prefers a sunny location, with little or no shade.

COLOR: Tifgreen has a dark green color, which is easy to maintain during the warmer months with proper fertilization and normal watering.

SALT TOLERANCE: Tifgreen has good tolerance to saline soil conditions found in both the coastal and desert areas.

THATCH: All hybrid bermudas develop thatch build-up, and Tifgreen is no exception. Proper cultural practices, a regular mowing schedule, and occasional verticutting or scalping will eliminate excessive thatch build-up.

ESTABLISHMENT & MAINTENANCE

WATERING: Newly planted Tifgreen should be watered daily and soaked thoroughly for the first 10 to 14 days to avoid drying out, and to enable the root system to penetrate its new soil environment. Once the sod has been established, watering frequency may be reduced. Due to varying soil and climate conditions, it is difficult to recommend a definite schedule. However, a deep soaking every five to seven days is generally adequate.

MOWING: Tifgreen should be mowed weekly with a reel mower with a grass catcher attachment and the clippings should be removed. It should be mowed at a height of between 1/4 and 3/4 inches, depending on individual preference. Avoid scalping.

FERTILIZATION: To maintain its beauty, dense appearance, and rich color, Tifgreen requires a consistent monthly fertilization schedule. During the spring, fall, and summer months, Tifgreen should be fertilized at monthly intervals with one pound of nitrogen applied to each 1,000 square feet of lawn.

WEED, INSECT AND DISEASE CONTROL: Tifgreen is virtually free of weeds, insects, and disease when it is delivered. However, in some lawn installations, weed and insect infestations may occur from close proximity to neighboring lawns which have these problems.Various cultural practices may be used to reduce these problems; however, should chemical controls be required, they should be used in accordance with the written instructions provided by the manufacturer.
