Magnolia grandiflora "St. Mary" -shares all of the
characteristics of the grandifloras except that if it is
pruned and staked, it makes a small tree. If left alone,
it will form a big, dense bush and is excellent for
espalier and pots. |

Magnolia soulangiana -the saucer magnolia is an
extremely hardy tree and does not require a sunny or protected location. Flower colors range from white to a deep
purplish red. It blooms well while still small, but because of
this it may become susceptible to late frost damage. |

Maytenus boaria -is a slow to moderate growing
evergreen which resembles a very dainty weeping
willow. It will eventually reach 30-40 feet. Since the
mayten tree will tolerate both heat and salt in the soil, it
is an excellent choice for seaside plantings. It is also an
outstanding lawn tree and many times will be used in a
patio area or along the side of a wall The weeping
branches of the "Green Showers" variety are densely
clad with deep green leaves that tend to be broader than
the seedling variety. |

Melaleuca leucadendron (Cajeput) -the cajeput is an upright evergreen tree with a thick, spongy, bark
that can range from a light honey brown to whitish
shade. Yellowish-white flowers in 2- inch spikes
bloom in summer and fall. It will normally reach a
height of 20-40 feet and makes an excellent street
tree. |

Metrosideros excelsus -is a moderate grower to 25-30
feet. Called the "New Zealand Christmas Tree" because of
the large dark red flowers that appear from May to July
(Christmas time in New Zealand). It is an excellent choice
for coastal areas since it tolerates both wind and sea spray. |
