11. Magnolia grandiflora "St. Mary" -shares all of the characteristics of the grandifloras except that if it is pruned and staked, it makes a small tree. If left alone, it will form a big, dense bush and is excellent for espalier and pots.

12. Magnolia soulangiana -the saucer magnolia is an extremely hardy tree and does not require a sunny or protected location. Flower colors range from white to a deep purplish red. It blooms well while still small, but because of this it may become susceptible to late frost damage.

13. Maytenus boaria -is a slow to moderate growing evergreen which resembles a very dainty weeping willow. It will eventually reach 30-40 feet. Since the mayten tree will tolerate both heat and salt in the soil, it is an excellent choice for seaside plantings. It is also an outstanding lawn tree and many times will be used in a patio area or along the side of a wall The weeping branches of the "Green Showers" variety are densely clad with deep green leaves that tend to be broader than the seedling variety.

14. Melaleuca leucadendron (Cajeput) -the cajeput is an upright evergreen tree with a thick, spongy, bark that can range from a light honey brown to whitish shade. Yellowish-white flowers in 2- inch spikes bloom in summer and fall. It will normally reach a height of 20-40 feet and makes an excellent street tree.

15. Metrosideros excelsus -is a moderate grower to 25-30 feet. Called the "New Zealand Christmas Tree" because of the large dark red flowers that appear from May to July (Christmas time in New Zealand). It is an excellent choice for coastal areas since it tolerates both wind and sea spray.
